Konami released Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of the Foot Clan for the Game Boy in 1990. It was one of the early portable games that let you take the Turtles on the go, a solid side-scroller during the system's first couple of years. You control one of the four Turtles, fighting through city streets and sewers to rescue April O'Neil and Splinter from the Foot Clan. The game progresses screen by screen; you clear all the enemies in one area before moving to the next. Each Turtle has his own life bar and a unique weapon, like Leonardo's katana or Donatello's bo staff. You can swap between them on the fly if one gets low on health, which adds a small layer of strategy. The pacing is fairly quick, though some enemy placements can feel cheap and lead to unexpected hits.
