Rambo: First Blood Part II on the Sega Master System is exactly what you’d expect—a pixelated, slightly janky, but weirdly satisfying adaptation of the movie. You start off with Rambo’s classic bow and a knife, sneaking through jungles and taking out enemy patrols before they spot you. The controls take a second to get used to (why is jumping so stiff?), but once you do, it’s pure 80s action cheese.

Some levels feel like they were designed by someone who only half-remembered the film—like, why is there a cave full of bats?—but that just adds to the charm. The music is surprisingly decent for an 8-bit soundtrack, and the sprite work actually makes Rambo look like Stallone, which is more than some licensed games managed back then. Just don’t expect deep strategy—this is all about running, gunning, and occasionally chucking grenades at helicopters.

If you grew up with the Master System or just love retro action games, it’s a fun little time capsule. Just keep a walkthrough handy for the maze-like later levels.
