Quartet Game

Quartet on the Sega Master System is one of those weird, forgotten co-op gems from the late '80s. You pick between four characters—each with their own weapon, like the boomerang guy or the laser pistol girl—and blast through these colorful, side-scrolling stages packed with bizarre enemies. The first time I played, I went with the spread-shot dude because, well, spread shots always feel overpowered.
What really sticks with you is the music. It’s got that classic Sega FM synth sound, all bouncy and energetic, like someone remixed an arcade soundtrack for a keyboard demo. The levels aren’t super long, but they throw enough weird gimmicks at you (floating platforms, sudden ambushes) that it never feels repetitive. And yeah, it’s way better with friends—chaotic, messy, and occasionally unfair in that old-school way where you just laugh instead of rage-quitting.
If you dig obscure retro co-op games, this one’s a blast—just don’t expect it to hold your hand.
