Yoshi’s Island is one of those SNES games that still feels fresh even now. You start off with Baby Mario strapped to Yoshi’s back, and right away, the art style grabs you—everything’s got this hand-drawn, crayon-scribble look that makes the levels pop. The first few stages ease you in, but don’t get too comfy; those floating platforms and Shy Guys get sneaky fast.
What I love is how Yoshi controls—his flutter jump gives you just enough hang time to mess up and panic, but also to pull off some clutch saves. And the egg-throwing mechanic? Way more satisfying than it has any right to be. You’ll be bouncing off walls, sniping enemies mid-air, and hunting down those hidden red coins like it’s your job.
Also, the soundtrack? Peak SNES charm. That underground theme still gets stuck in my head. If you missed this one back in the day, it’s worth digging up—just be ready for some legit platforming challenge once the training wheels come off.
