Mario's Strange Quest Game

Mario's Strange Quest is one of those weird, unofficial SNES romhacks that makes you go, "Wait, what?" at least twice in the first five minutes. Instead of the usual Mushroom Kingdom stuff, you're suddenly dealing with bizarre level designs, off-brand enemies, and this unsettling feeling that someone messed with the game's code while sleep-deprived.
Jumping feels just slightly off—like Mario's boots are filled with wet sand—and the power-ups do things they definitely shouldn't. I accidentally turned into a floating question mark block for a solid minute before figuring out how to revert. The music's a mix of familiar tunes and distorted tracks that sound like they're playing through a broken radio.
It's janky, unpredictable, and honestly kind of fascinating if you're into "what even is this?" retro mods. You'll either rage-quit after the third pitfall or keep going just to see how much weirder it gets.
