Final Fantasy II -is- Easy Type is basically the SNES version of Final Fantasy IV, but with training wheels—in a good way. They tweaked the difficulty so you don’t get wrecked by random encounters five minutes in, and some of the grind is smoothed out. Still has all the drama—betrayals, fake deaths, that one guy who turns into a spoony bard—but now you can actually enjoy it without needing a walkthrough.
First thing you’ll notice? The battles feel less punishing. Your party doesn’t get wiped because some enemy decided to spam AoE spells back-to-back. And yeah, the translation’s still a little janky (this is a ’90s RPG), but that’s part of the charm. Cecil’s still brooding, Kain’s still conflicted, and Rydia’s summon animations are just as ridiculous as ever.
If you’ve bounced off the original because of the difficulty spikes, this version’s the one to try. It’s the same epic story, just without the controller-throwing frustration.
