Final Fantasy III on the NES is one of those classic JRPGs that never made it outside Japan back in the day—which is a shame, because it’s where the series really started nailing the job system. You pick four blank-slate characters and mold them into whatever you want: knights, mages, thieves, or even weird niche picks like geomancers. At first, I just stuck with the basics, but messing around with job-swapping mid-battle is where the fun kicks in.

The pixel art’s charmingly old-school, and the music’s got that classic Uematsu feel—simple but catchy. It’s grindy in that satisfying NES way, where every new dungeon feels like a real accomplishment. Just don’t expect the story to hold your hand; it’s all about the adventure, not deep character arcs. If you’re into retro RPGs, this one’s a must-play.
