Final Fantasy V is one of those SNES RPGs that doesn’t get enough love—probably because it never officially made it to the West back in the day. But if you’re into job systems, this one’s a gem. You start off with four blank-slate characters, and within an hour, you’re mixing and matching jobs like a mad scientist. Want a knight who can cast black magic? Go for it. A monk with blue magic? Why not.
The story’s lighter than FFIV or VI, but the gameplay’s where it shines. The first time you unlock Freelancer and realize you can stack abilities from mastered jobs? That’s the good stuff. And the soundtrack? Classic Uematsu—catchy overworld tunes, tense boss themes, the works. Just watch out for the difficulty spikes; some bosses don’t mess around.
If you missed this one back in the ‘90s, it’s worth digging up now—especially if you like tinkering with builds more than brooding over plot twists.
