Top Gear Pocket on the Game Boy Color is one of those racers that feels way bigger than it has any right to be. Tiny cars, tiny tracks, but somehow it nails that arcade racing vibe where you’re just barely scraping past opponents on narrow roads. The Japan version’s got a few extra tracks compared to the US release, which is nice if you’ve already burned through the other one.
First thing you’ll notice? The handling’s weirdly satisfying—kind of slidey, but in a way where you can actually control it after a couple races. And the music? Classic Top Gear synth beats that somehow don’t get old even on the GBC’s tinny speaker. It’s not perfect (good luck seeing anything in tunnels), but for a pocket racer, it holds up way better than it should.
