About Top Gear (europe)
Top Gear came out for the Super Nintendo in 1992, published by Gremlin Graphics. It was one of the many racing games on the system, but it stood out for its focus on long distance rallies rather than just quick laps on a single track.
You pick one of four cars and race through stages set across eight different countries. The main goal is to finish each race high enough in the rankings to earn prize money, which you then spend on upgrading your car's tires, engine, and body. The racing happens screen by screen, with a tight, top-down view that makes sharp corners and oncoming traffic constant threats. You also have to manage your fuel and damage, making pit stops a regular part of the strategy. The game moves at a fast clip and the later stages get quite difficult, demanding precise control. It feels tense and rewarding when you finally beat a tough course with a well-tuned car.
