Man, TMNT: Tournament Fighters on Genesis was such a weird, fun little fighting game. It’s got that classic Konami arcade feel—bright colors, chunky sprites, and way more personality than you’d expect from a licensed fighter. The roster’s a mix of obvious picks (Leo, Raph, etc.) and deep cuts like Wingnut or that weird armored rat guy. No idea why he’s here, but I’m not complaining.
What’s wild is how different this version is from the SNES and NES ones—like, completely unique movesets and even some exclusive characters. The Genesis edition leans into faster, slightly jankier combat, where landing a super feels like you just broke the game in the best way. It’s not Street Fighter, but for a TMNT brawler in the ‘90s? Way better than it had any right to be.
Still holds up if you’re into retro fighters with attitude. Just don’t expect balance—Casey Jones will wreck you if you’re not careful.
