If you missed out on Turtles in Time in the arcade or on SNES, Hyperstone Heist is basically the Genesis doing its best to keep up—and honestly, it holds its own. Shredder’s up to his usual nonsense, this time shrinking Manhattan with the Hyperstone (because why not?), and the turtles have to bash their way through foot soldiers, mutants, and some surprisingly slick boss fights.
The levels are remixed from the SNES version, so even if you’ve played Turtles in Time, there’s enough new stuff here to feel fresh. Yeah, it’s only two-player instead of four, but the co-op is still a blast if you’ve got a friend handy. The sprite work and animations are solid for the hardware, and the music’s got that classic Genesis crunch. Not quite the arcade experience, but close enough to scratch that nostalgia itch.
Definitely one of the better TMNT beat ‘em ups out there.
