Man, Hyperstone Heist is peak TMNT on the Genesis. You pick your turtle—Leo’s balanced, Mikey’s quick, Donnie’s got reach (Raph’s… there too)—and immediately dive into smashing Foot Clan goons with pizza-fueled combos. The first level throws you right into a dockside brawl, and within minutes you’re chucking enemies into the water or nailing that satisfying jump+attack slam.
It’s basically the arcade experience at home, but with that slightly janky Genesis charm. The sprites are chunky, the colors pop, and Shredder’s voice samples sound like he’s yelling through a tin can. Co-op’s where it shines, though—nothing like watching your friend accidentally whack you with a wild bo staff swing during the Rocksteady boss fight.
Not as flashy as Turtles in Time, but it’s got its own weird energy (why is there a level where you fight on blimps?). If you grew up with the cartoon or just love old-school beat ‘em ups, this one’s a time capsule worth cracking open.
