Super Mario World - A Haunted Christmas Game

Super Mario World - A Haunted Christmas is one of those weird, charming ROM hacks that turns the original game into a festive nightmare. You’ve got all the classic SMW mechanics—Yoshi, cape feathers, secret exits—but now everything’s covered in snow, ghosts, and creepy holiday decorations. The first level throws you right into a spooky winter wonderland with floating Boo ornaments and ice physics that’ll send you sliding into pits if you’re not careful.
It’s janky in that classic fan-made way—some of the enemy placements feel unfair, and the palette swaps can be eye-melting—but there’s something hilarious about watching Mario stomp a Koopa wearing a Santa hat. The music’s all twisted Christmas carols too, which somehow makes the whole thing even weirder. Not exactly Nintendo-polished, but if you’ve played the original SMW to death, this is a fun little detour.
