Super Mario 3 – Around The World Game

Ever wondered what Super Mario 3 would feel like on a Sega Genesis? This weird little romhack tries to answer that—sort of. It’s got the same power-ups and platforming, but everything’s just slightly off, like playing Mario through a Sega-colored lens. The controls are a bit stiffer, the colors are way more saturated, and the music… well, let’s just say it’s not Koji Kondo.
You still jump on goombas, grab fire flowers, and dodge those annoying hammer bros, but the physics feel heavier, like Mario’s wearing lead boots. The first time I tried a running jump, I faceplanted straight into a pit. Took a few levels to adjust.
Not gonna lie, it’s janky, but there’s something weirdly charming about seeing Mario in this alternate universe where he got ported to the wrong console. If you’re into retro oddities, it’s a fun curiosity. Just don’t expect it to replace the original.
