Street Fighter Alpha on Game Boy Color is a surprisingly solid port of the arcade classic—though, yeah, the tiny screen and chunky sprites take some getting used to. You’ve got all the usual suspects like Ryu, Ken, and Chun-Li, plus some Alpha-exclusive fighters like Charlie and Sodom. The special moves actually feel pretty responsive once you adjust to the GBC’s buttons, and the super combos still pack a punch (even if the animations are simplified).
It’s weirdly charming in that late-90s handheld way—like, yeah, the backgrounds are basically colored blobs, but the core gameplay’s still there. Just don’t expect arcade-perfect timing. I kept whiffing dragon punches at first until I realized the input window’s a bit more forgiving.
If you’re a Street Fighter diehard with a soft spot for handheld jank, this one’s a fun little time capsule.
