Panic in Nakayoshi World is this weird little SNES action game from '94 that feels like someone threw a bunch of anime mascots into a chaotic platformer. You pick one of four cutesy characters—each with their own weird little quirks—and then just sort of bounce around smashing enemies and collecting... I think they're bells? The controls are floaty in that old-school way where you either get used to it or rage-quit after five minutes.
What's funny is how the difficulty spikes out of nowhere. One minute you're casually hopping on mushroom dudes, the next you're getting swarmed by enemies while the screen scrolls way too fast. The music's got that classic early '90s synth cheeriness that somehow makes the whole thing even more surreal. Definitely one of those "had to be there" Japan-only oddities.
