About Zoop
Zoop came out for the Game Boy in 1995, published by Viacom New Media. It was one of those abstract puzzle games that fit right in on the handheld, a screen you could carry around and play in short bursts. This was the era of Tetris clones and shape matching, and Zoop had its own particular spin on the formula.
You control a small triangle at the center of the screen. Colored shapes come at you from all four sides, and you have to shoot them before they reach the middle. The main objective is to clear the screen of these incoming shapes by matching your triangle's color to theirs. Two key mechanics define the play: you can quickly switch your triangle's color to match the attackers, and you can also shoot shapes to create chain reactions that clear multiple rows at once. The game starts calmly but the pace ramps up considerably, demanding fast reflexes and color recognition as the shapes pour in faster and from more directions. It feels like a constant, tense negotiation with the edges of the screen.
