Zool - Majou Tsukai Densetsu (J) game

Zool - Majou Tsukai Densetsu is one of those weird, late-era N64 Japan-only RPGs that never made it overseas. You play as a young mage-in-training, and yeah, there’s spellcasting—but don’t expect smooth controls. The magic system’s clunky by today’s standards, though there’s something oddly charming about fumbling through incantations with the N64’s awkward button layout.

The puzzles are the real meat of it. Some are clever, some are just obscure (good luck without a guide for a few of these). The world’s got that blocky N64 charm, all foggy draw distances and low-res textures, but the art direction’s solid—lots of eerie shrines and crumbling castles that feel genuinely mystical.

Not gonna lie, it’s niche. But if you’re into digging up forgotten 90s JRPG vibes, it’s a neat time capsule.
