About Yuu Yuu Hakusho (japan)
Yuu Yuu Hakusho for the Game Boy came out in 1993 in Japan, developed by Tomy. It was part of that wave of games based on popular anime, landing right in the middle of the handheld's life when developers were really figuring out what worked on the small screen. You don't see many people talking about it now, but at the time it was just another cartridge you might pick up if you were a fan of the show.
In the game you control Yusuke Urameshi, a teenage spirit detective. Your main goal is to fight through side-scrolling stages, battling demons and other enemies from the series. The combat is straightforward; you punch and kick, and you can collect power-ups to shoot your signature Spirit Gun attack. You move from screen to screen, dealing with platforming sections and occasional boss fights that require you to learn their patterns. The pacing is fairly quick, though some of the jumps can be tricky and the enemies respawn if you backtrack. It feels like a condensed version of the anime's early story, a simple beat-'em-up that gets you right into the action.
