If you grew up watching Yuu Yuu Hakusho, this Game Boy fighter is pure nostalgia. You pick between Yusuke, Kuwabara, Hiei, or Kurama—each with their own weirdly specific moves (Kuwabara’s Spirit Sword feels clunky at first, but once you get the timing down, it’s stupidly satisfying).
The sprites are tiny but surprisingly detailed—you’ll recognize Hiei’s dragon flame attacks or Kurama’s rose whip animations right away. And yeah, the Dark Tournament arc is here, though it’s mostly just a series of 1v1 fights with some basic story text in between. Not exactly deep, but the combat’s snappy enough that you’ll keep mashing buttons just to see Yusuke’s Spirit Gun blast in pixel form.
Multiplayer’s the real draw if you’ve got a link cable and a friend who’s equally obsessed with 90s anime. Just don’t expect a balanced roster—some characters clearly got more love than others. Still, for a licensed Game Boy game, it’s way better than it had any right to be.
