About Yannick Noah Tennis (france)
I remember picking up Yannick Noah Tennis for the Game Boy back in 1994. It was published by Loriciel, a name you'd see on a fair number of European releases for the handheld. In those days, a portable tennis game was a welcome find, a simple sports title you could carry in your pocket.
You control a tennis player from an overhead view, moving them around the court to return the ball. The main goal is to win matches by outscoring your opponent in sets. The game uses a screen by screen system, switching to a close up view for each shot, which makes positioning crucial. You have different shot types, like lobs and volleys, activated with the A and B buttons. The pacing is quite methodical, and the computer can be unforgiving if you misplace a shot. It feels like a thoughtful, almost chess like duel where every swing matters.
