Yakouchuu II - Satsujin Kouru is one of those N64 hidden gems that never made it outside Japan, which is a shame because it’s a solid murder mystery with a real detective vibe. You play as a journalist digging into a string of killings, and the game throws you right into the thick of it—interviewing sketchy witnesses, poking around crime scenes, and piecing together clues that don’t always add up cleanly.
The environments are surprisingly detailed for an N64 title, with dimly lit alleys and cramped apartments that actually feel lived-in. Some of the puzzles can be a little obtuse (good luck without a guide if you don’t speak Japanese), but when you finally crack a case, it’s weirdly satisfying. If you’re into slow-burn detective stuff and don’t mind some trial and error, this one’s worth dusting off.
