Xenon 2 on Game Boy is one of those shooters that feels like it’s actively trying to murder you—in the best way possible. The second you start, waves of pixelated aliens swarm in from all sides, bullets everywhere, and that chunky little spaceship of yours somehow handles like a dream. The music’s got that classic synth vibe, too—you’ll recognize it instantly if you’ve ever played the Amiga version.

What I love is how it doesn’t hold your hand. No regenerating shields here—just pure, unforgiving arcade chaos. You pick up power-ups mid-flight, stacking lasers and bombs until your ship looks like it’s barely holding together. Mess up once, though, and you’re back to pea-shooter mode. Brutal, but so satisfying when you finally clear a level.

If you’ve got a Game Boy and even a passing interest in shmups, this one’s a no-brainer. Just don’t blame me when you start seeing enemy patterns in your sleep.
