World Ice Hockey (japan) Game

World Ice Hockey on Game Boy is one of those old-school sports games that somehow nails the chaos of hockey without getting too complicated. You pick from a handful of national teams (Japan, USA, etc.), and right away you're thrown into these chunky pixelated rinks where the puck moves way faster than your little guys. The controls are simple—pass, shoot, check—but the AI actually puts up a fight, especially on higher difficulties.
What I love is how scrappy the matches feel. Players tumble over each other, the ref occasionally gets in the way, and the crowd cheers in these tinny Game Boy bleeps. The power-ups are weirdly fun too—suddenly your whole team skates at double speed or the goalie turns into a brick wall. It’s not deep, but it’s got that addictive "one more game" energy.
If you’re into retro sports games, this one’s a hidden gem. Just don’t expect NHL-level realism.
