World Ice Hockey Game

World Ice Hockey on Game Boy is one of those old-school sports games that somehow nails the feel of the real thing despite the tiny screen. You pick your team—I always went for Canada, obviously—and then it’s straight into fast, chaotic matches where the puck zips around like it’s on a caffeine high.
The controls are simple—pass, shoot, check—but timing matters way more than you’d think. Miss a shot by half a second, and suddenly the other team’s breaking away for an easy goal. And yeah, the AI isn’t exactly genius-level, but they’ll still punish you if you get lazy on defense.
What’s cool is how the game actually makes you feel the momentum shifts. One minute you’re getting wrecked 3-0, next thing you know, you’ve strung together a couple of slap shots and the crowd (well, the tiny pixelated crowd) goes wild. It’s pure arcade hockey with just enough strategy to keep you from button-mashing your way to victory.
Still holds up if you’re into retro sports games—just don’t expect fancy graphics or NHL licensing.
