About World Games
World Games came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987, published by Epyx. It was part of that wave of sports compilations on the NES, a collection of international events you could play alone or with friends.
You control an athlete representing a specific country, competing in a tournament across eight different events like bull riding, log rolling, and cliff diving. The main goal is to earn the most points by winning medals in each event. The mechanics are simple but require timing; you mash buttons for weight lifting, balance the D-pad for log rolling, and time your jumps for barrel jumping. The game moves at a quick pace from one event to the next, and some events are surprisingly difficult to master. It feels like a chaotic, living-room Olympics where a single mistake can cost you the gold.
