About World Circuit Series
World Circuit Series came out for the Game Boy in 1990, developed by Natsu System and published by VAP. It was part of that early wave of portable games where developers were figuring out what worked on the small screen, focusing on straightforward, pick-up-and-play concepts. This one landed squarely in the racing genre, offering a different kind of challenge from the platformers and puzzle games that were common at the time.
You control a single race car from a top-down perspective, navigating tight, winding tracks. Your main objective is to win a series of championship cups by finishing in first place across multiple races. The core mechanics involve careful braking before sharp corners, managing your fuel load so you don't run out before the finish line, and making strategic pit stops for tires and fuel that cost you precious time. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the AI opponents are relentless, making it quite difficult to maintain a lead. It feels like a constant, tense battle against the track and the clock, where a single mistake can ruin an entire race.
