Wonder Project J2 is one of those weird, charming N64 games that never made it outside Japan—which is a shame, because it’s got this oddly wholesome vibe. You play as a tiny fairy guiding Josette, a robot girl who starts off clueless about the world (like, she doesn’t even know how to walk at first). Your job? Teach her everything, from basic manners to problem-solving, by pointing at stuff and letting her figure things out.
It’s part life sim, part adventure—Josette reacts to everything, and her personality shifts based on how you nudge her. Mess up, and she might turn into a brat; play it right, and she’ll grow into this kind, curious kid. The world’s got this storybook feel, with hand-drawn sprites and these little environmental puzzles where Josette has to interact with objects or people. It’s slow-paced, but there’s something weirdly satisfying about watching her finally grasp a concept after failing a bunch.
Fair warning: the controls take some getting used to (it’s all cursor-based, which feels odd on an N64), and the language barrier’s real if you don’t know Japanese. But if you’re into niche sims with heart, it’s a hidden gem. Just don’t expect action—this one’s all about patience and tiny victories.
