Wizardry Gaiden 1 is one of those old-school dungeon crawlers that doesn’t hold your hand—like, at all. You start by rolling up a party of adventurers (good luck picking the right classes, because I definitely didn’t my first time), then dive straight into a maze of twisty corridors, hidden traps, and monsters that love to ambush you. The Game Boy’s tiny screen makes it even more claustrophobic, which somehow adds to the tension.
It’s got that classic Wizardry flavor—turn-based combat, cryptic puzzles, and the constant fear of losing your entire party to a random encounter. If you’re into brutal, old-school RPGs where every step feels risky, this one’s a solid (if punishing) choice. Just don’t blame me when your thief gets one-shotted by a goblin.
