Widget was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System, though I don't recall the developer offhand. It came out during a time when the NES was full of platformers trying new things, and this one definitely had its own spin.

You control Widget, an alien sent to stop his evil twin from destroying Earth. You run and jump through side scrolling stages, shooting pellets from a gun at various enemies. A key mechanic lets Widget transform into a more powerful creature after collecting a specific item, which changes how you approach fights and obstacles. Similar to games like Mega Man, you can choose your path; after clearing the first stage, you select which level to tackle next. The game moves at a brisk pace and can be quite challenging, demanding quick reflexes and smart use of your transformations. It feels like a solid, inventive challenge from that era.
