Wayne Gretzky’s 3D Hockey on N64 is pure arcade-style chaos—big hits, wild slapshots, and way more fun than it has any right to be. The controls are simple enough that you’ll be body-checking guys into the boards within seconds, but there’s some sneaky depth if you start messing with dekes and one-timers.
First thing you’ll notice? The players are comically oversized, like action figures smashing into each other at full speed. Puck physics are ridiculous in the best way—you can send it flying halfway across the ice with a well-timed shot. And yeah, the Japanese version’s got all the same over-the-top energy, just with some extra menu quirks if you don’t read the language.
It’s not a sim by any means, but that’s why it holds up. Perfect for quick matches where you just want to wreck your friends instead of sweating over realistic strategies. The announcer’s voice alone is worth the price of admission.
