Wario Land II is one of those weird, brilliant Game Boy games where getting hit by enemies doesn’t kill you—it just makes things weirder. One minute you’re stomping through a pirate ship, the next you’re flat as a pancake from a hammer, bouncing around like some kind of deranged trampoline. And Wario? He doesn’t care. He just wants his treasure.
The levels are packed with secrets—fake walls, hidden switches, alternate paths—and half the fun is figuring out how to break everything. There’s this one stage where you get turned into zombie Wario, shuffling around with your arms out, and suddenly you can walk through spikes. Of course you can. Why wouldn’t you?
It’s got that classic Game Boy charm, too: chunky sprites, catchy little tunes, and just the right amount of jank. If you’ve ever wanted to play a platformer where the main character gets set on fire and then uses it to melt ice blocks, this is your game.
