War Gods on N64 is one of those mid-tier fighters that somehow sticks with you—it’s janky in places, but there’s something weirdly fun about it. You pick from these hulking god-like characters (my go-to was the lava dude Kabuki Jo) and just whale on each other in blocky 3D arenas. The animations are stiff by today’s standards, but back then, pulling off a fatality-style "power move" felt brutal.
Matches get chaotic fast—you’ll knock someone into a spike pit, then immediately eat a fireball from across the screen. The roster’s got variety, at least: there’s a minotaur, a cyborg, even a weird floating head thing. It’s not Tekken or anything, but if you’re into ‘90s fighters with attitude, it’s a decent time. Just don’t expect silky smooth combos.
Still, I’ve lost hours to it with friends arguing over who’s actually the cheapest character. (Spoiler: It’s definitely the guy with the extendable arms.)
