Wacky Racers on NES is exactly as chaotic as the cartoon—you play as Muttley, the snickering dog, trying to bail out Dick Dastardly (who, surprise, messed up yet again). The race tracks are packed with traps, rival racers gunning for you, and weird shortcuts that either save you or send you flying off a cliff. Muttley’s got this weird pounce attack and can chomp obstacles, but half the time I just ended up face-planting into oil slicks.

The controls take a second to get used to—your jumps feel floaty, and sometimes you’ll swear you cleared a gap only to tumble into the abyss. But once it clicks, weaving through traffic and dodging Penelope Pitstop’s rolling pins is weirdly satisfying. The later stages get brutal, though. One wrong move and you’re watching Dick get dragged off by the Ant Hill Mob while Muttley just shrugs. Classic.
