WWF WrestleMania came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990, developed by Rare and published by Acclaim. It was one of several wrestling titles on the NES, arriving at a time when digitizing the larger-than-life personalities of the WWF was still a new challenge for home consoles.

You control one of six WWF wrestlers, like Hulk Hogan or the Ultimate Warrior, in a series of one-on-one matches. Your goal is to win the championship belt by defeating every opponent. The moveset is simple, consisting of punches, kicks, a running attack, a body slam, and a move off the turnbuckle, though Andre the Giant cannot perform that last one. A key mechanic is the anger state; after taking enough damage, your wrestler flashes red and temporarily deals more powerful strikes. The action is confined to the ring, and the difficulty can feel punishing as the computer opponents relentlessly attack. Playing it feels like a straightforward, sometimes frustrating test of patience and timing against a very tough opponent.
