About Wwf Superstars (japan)
WWF Superstars for the Game Boy came out in 1991, developed by Rare and published by LJN. It was one of the early wrestling games on the handheld, arriving when portable gaming was still mostly about simple, quick sessions. You could tell it was trying to fit a bigger experience onto that small green screen.
You pick a WWF wrestler and fight through a tournament bracket, one match at a time. The main goal is to win the championship belt by beating every other opponent. The controls are straightforward: you punch, kick, and grapple. A signature mechanic is the momentum-based pin system; you have to weaken your opponent significantly before a pin attempt will stick. Another is the limited move set, which makes each match a test of patience and timing rather than flashy combos. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can feel unforgiving if you miss a grapple. It feels like a gritty, tactical brawl where every move counts.
