About Volley Fire (japan)
Volley Fire for the Game Boy was a 1990 release from the developer Natsu System. It arrived during a period when the handheld was establishing its library with a variety of arcade style games, and this one fit right into that early, straightforward action genre.
You control a small, single soldier navigating a series of single screen battlefields. Your main objective is to eliminate all enemy soldiers that appear on each stage. The signature mechanic is the volley fire itself; you must hold the fire button to charge your shot, then release to launch a projectile that travels in a high arc. You have to carefully time these shots to arc over obstacles like rocks and walls that block your path. The game progresses screen by screen, with each new layout presenting a different tactical puzzle of angles and timing. The pacing is deliberate, demanding patience as you wait for the right moment to shoot, and the difficulty comes from the precision required. It feels like a methodical game of artillery chess played out on a tiny screen.
