Volley Fire is one of those Game Boy shooters that looks simple at first—just blast enemies before they blast you—but then you realize there’s a twist. Half the challenge isn’t just aiming, it’s timing your shots so they actually reach the other side. Rocks and junk keep floating across the screen, and if you fire at the wrong moment, your bullet just smacks into debris instead of the enemy.

First time I played, I kept spamming shots like an idiot, watching them all get blocked. Then it clicks—you gotta wait for those little gaps, almost like a rhythm game. The Japanese version feels a bit smoother than some of the later ports, too. Not a deep strategy game, but weirdly satisfying once you get the hang of it.
