About Volguard Ii (japan)
Volguard II came out in 1985 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, developed by Compile. It was one of many shooters on the platform, a sequel that stayed in Japan.
You pilot a small ship through side scrolling and overhead stages, shooting down enemy craft and dodging their fire. The goal is to survive the levels and defeat the boss waiting at the end of each one. Your ship can collect power ups to upgrade its main weapon, changing its firing pattern. You also have a limited screen clearing bomb for emergencies. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the challenge comes from dense enemy formations and tricky bullet patterns. It feels like a constant test of your reflexes and positioning.
