About Virtual Pool 64
Virtual Pool 64 came out for the Nintendo 64 in 1998, developed by Celeris. It was one of the few dedicated pool simulations on the console, arriving at a time when many games focused on action or adventure. This title stood out simply by offering a straightforward, no frills take on the sport.
You control the cue stick from an overhead view, carefully positioning it for each shot. The main objective is to pocket balls according to the standard rules of games like eight ball or nine ball. Key mechanics include using the analog stick to aim and adjust power, with a precise aiming line that shows the cue ball's path. You can also apply English, putting spin on the ball to control its behavior after impact. The game moves at a deliberate pace, demanding patience and forethought rather than quick reflexes. It feels satisfying to plan and execute a difficult combination shot that clears the table.
