Velious II - Fukushuu No Jashin is one of those weird, obscure Game Boy RPGs that somehow slipped under the radar. You start off as this warrior dude (or lady, I think you can pick) trying to stop some ancient evil god from wrecking everything—standard JRPG stuff, but with that classic late-90s handheld charm.

The battles are turn-based, and the sprites are tiny but surprisingly detailed for a Game Boy game. I remember getting stuck early on because the translation’s a little rough (it never got an English release), but once you figure out which menu option does what, it’s got that addictive grind-and-explore loop. Also, the music slaps—expect crunchy synth dungeon tracks that somehow still get stuck in your head.

If you’re into digging up forgotten RPGs, this one’s a neat little time capsule.
