Velious - Roland no Majuu is one of those weird, obscure Game Boy RPGs that slipped under the radar back in the day. You play as Roland, some kid who gets dragged into a fantasy world where he has to tame and fuse monsters—kinda like a stripped-down Pokémon meets Dragon Quest vibe, but with its own odd charm.

The monster designs are surprisingly cool for a Game Boy title, and the fusion system lets you mash creatures together to make stronger ones. I remember spending way too long trying to figure out which combos worked best—some of them are hilariously overpowered if you get lucky.

It’s in Japanese, so unless you’re fluent or don’t mind guessing, you might hit a wall. But if you’re into retro RPGs with a monster-collecting twist, it’s a neat little time capsule from the Game Boy era.
