V-Rally 99 on the N64 is one of those racers that feels rough at first—until you realize the physics actually make sense once you get used to them. The tracks are brutal, especially in rain or snow, and you’ll spend the first few races just trying to keep your car from sliding into a ditch. But when you finally nail a perfect drift around a tight corner? So satisfying.
The graphics were solid for the time, with some surprisingly detailed car models and terrain that actually affects how your vehicle handles. Mud slows you down, ice turns every turn into a gamble, and night stages? Good luck seeing anything beyond your headlights. It’s not the most polished racer on the N64, but it’s got a weird charm if you stick with it.
Just don’t expect an easy win—this game makes you work for every checkpoint.
