Universal Soldier on the Game Boy is one of those old-school action games that feels like it was designed to test your patience—in a weirdly satisfying way. You play as a soldier blasting through waves of enemies, and yeah, the controls are a little stiff by today’s standards, but there’s something oddly charming about the chunky sprites and simple run-and-gun gameplay.
First few minutes? You’ll be figuring out the weird hitboxes and memorizing enemy patterns—because you will die a lot. The music’s got that classic Game Boy beepy energy, and the levels are short enough that retrying doesn’t feel too punishing. It’s not the deepest game, but if you’re into retro shooters, it’s a fun little time capsule.
Just don’t expect a masterpiece—this is pure ‘90s handheld action, rough edges and all.
