Ultraman Chou Toushi Gekiden is one of those weird little Game Boy gems that throws a bit of everything at you. One minute you're jumping platforms like a standard action game, the next you're blasting through side-scrolling shooter sections—kinda like if someone mashed Mega Man and Gradius together but with Ultraman punching aliens in the face.
It's janky in that classic early '90s handheld way, but there's something charming about how it switches things up. The sprites are tiny but surprisingly detailed for a Game Boy title, and the music has that crunchy, energetic vibe you'd expect. Not gonna lie, the controls take some getting used to, especially when it suddenly shifts genres on you mid-level.
If you're into retro games that don't play it safe, this one's a fun oddity. Just don't expect it to hold your hand.
