Ultraman Ball came out for the Game Boy in 1990, published by Bandai. It was part of that early wave of portable games where developers were still figuring out what worked on the small screen. This one is a puzzle action game based on the Ultraman franchise, though it plays quite differently from the typical monster fights you might expect.

You control a small Ultraman character viewed from above, moving screen by screen through a series of single room puzzles. Your main goal is to clear each stage by destroying all the blocks, but you do this by bouncing a ball around the arena. You can kick the ball to change its direction, and you must avoid letting it fall into pits or get stolen by enemies. The pacing is methodical; you need to plan your shots and position yourself carefully, as the ball can easily get stuck or fly off in the wrong direction. It feels like a strange but deliberate mix of pinball and strategic block breaking.
