Ultra Golf on Game Boy is one of those deceptively simple games that hooks you fast. You pick your club, adjust the power meter—just enough to avoid overshooting but not so little you land in the sand—and hope the wind doesn’t wreck your shot. The courses look basic at first glance, but those pixelated trees and water hazards get annoying in the best way.

What surprised me was how much strategy sneaks in. Do you play it safe with a mid-range iron or go for the risky driver? The controls are straightforward (d-pad and two buttons), but nailing the timing takes practice. And yeah, the music’s that classic Game Boy bleep-bloop vibe—nostalgic or grating, depending on your mood.

It’s not fancy, but there’s something satisfying about finally getting par on the back nine after whiffing it five times. Definitely a solid time-killer if you’re into retro sports games.
