About Ultimate League Soccer
Ultimate League Soccer was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System, though I don't recall the developer or publisher. It was one of many sports titles on the NES that tried to capture the feel of the sport with the system's limitations.
You control a team of soccer players from a side-scrolling view, moving up and down the pitch to score goals. The main objective is to win matches, either in a single game or a full championship. Your key actions are passing with the B button and executing a stronger kick by holding the A button; without the ball, you press A to tackle and B to switch which player you control. You also manually command your goalkeeper, making him jump with a press of the A button. The pacing is quick, with game periods running faster than real time, and tied matches go straight to a penalty shootout. Playing it feels like a straightforward, sometimes frantic attempt to outmaneuver the other team on a small, crowded field.
