About Ultimate Basketball
Ultimate Basketball came out in 1990 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, published by American Sammy. It was part of that wave of sports games trying to capture the fast pace of the sport on the 8-bit hardware, sitting alongside other basketball titles of the era without necessarily standing out from the crowd.
You control a team of five players, switching between them to move the ball down the court. The main goal is to outscore the opposing team by making baskets. Signature mechanics include a full-court perspective where you pass and dribble to avoid defenders, and a shot meter that determines the accuracy of your attempts. The game moves quickly, and the computer opponents can be relentless on defense, making it difficult to get a clean shot. It feels like a frantic scramble to find an opening before the clock runs out.
