Ultima - Ushinawareta Runes is one of those weird little Game Boy RPGs that flew under the radar—probably because it never left Japan. You play as a hero trying to recover lost runes (hence the title) in a stripped-down Ultima-style world. The overworld feels cramped, but the dungeons have that classic first-person blobber perspective, which was kind of wild to see on the tiny Game Boy screen.

Combat’s turn-based, and magic works through a rune system where you combine symbols—took me forever to figure out which ones actually did anything useful. The translation patches help, but even then, it’s got that charmingly janky early-90s JRPG vibe. If you’re into obscure retro RPGs, this one’s a neat curiosity. Just don’t expect Ultima VII.
